World of Circus asks:
Tell us if you can Jason, what is your current state of mind?

Jason
I’m all about enjoying life right now. When you have your nose to the grindstone all of the time, it’s easy to forget to stop and enjoy what’s happening around you. I like to be able to look back every year and be satisfied with my accomplishments and new experiences.

WoC
So how would you say that you spend most of your time?

Jason
Making art, of course!  When I’m not making art, I like to relax with the wife, play video games, hike, or travel.

WoC
What was your earliest memory of being an illustrator and what was your subject?

Jason
I remember composing scenes with Ninja Turtles when I was a kid. And Mario. I never turned back.

WoC
As an artist what is your worst habit?

Jason
My worst habit is biting off more than I can chew. I take on a lot of work sometimes and I pay for it with long hours and no sleep.

WoC
What is a motto that you adhere to and would encourage others to follow?

Jason
Quite simply, “Earn it”.

WoC
If you could be a fictional character for a day, who would you be?

Jason
Finn from Adventure Time.

WoC
Would you still do this same thing if you won 50 million dollars in the lottery?

Jason
I probably would be doing something similar, but not necessarily the same. I would probably do more passion projects since I would not have to worry about making a living! I would definitely still be doing illustrations, though.

WoC
Who is your hero, someone that inspires you in real life?

Jason
My parents.

WoC
If you were a circus artist, who would you be? What kind of performance would you do?

Jason
I would be an acrobat.  One that was particularly good at jumping and flying through the air.  I have no acrobatic ability and I’m a bit clumsy so I’ve always been fascinated with people who have so much control over their own bodies.  It must be thrilling to have so much physical freedom.

WoC
What made you decide to become involved with this contest?

Jason
I think that creative contests are very important in the arts communities.  I owe a lot of my career to having participated in numerous contests.  Not only do they put a goal in front of artists that they can compete for, but contests also put a spotlight on the contestants to get them noticed by the community.

WoC
What is your one tool that you couldn’t live without?

Jason
I guess my computer.  Sad to say.

WoC
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

Dude, like, yeah, cool, man… That’s awesome.  (Born and raised in California).

WoC
With all of your talents, what would you most like to add to your repertoire?

Jason
I would love to be charismatic.  That’s a very powerful talent to have!

WoC
If you could be anywhere, where would you most like to live?

Jason
Somewhere with lots of green trees and moving water.
